SEO and AEO begin with a useful answer

SEO helps search engines find and understand useful pages. AEO is commonly used to describe work that makes information easier to use in answer-based experiences. For a business website, the practical foundation is shared: explain the offer clearly, answer real questions, support claims and make the next step easy to take.

Start with the customer’s decision.

List the questions people ask before they enquire: who the service suits, what is included, how the process works, what affects the cost and what information they should prepare. Use those questions to shape the service page rather than creating a disconnected list of search phrases.

Give important questions a direct answer, then add the context needed to make it useful. Concise openings help a reader orient themselves, while examples, limits and practical detail prevent the page from becoming a collection of shallow one-sentence responses.

Make the information accessible and credible.

Keep essential content in readable page text with clear headings and crawlable links. Use images to support the explanation and provide appropriate alternative text. Search access and an understandable page structure help systems discover the information you intend to publish.

Support factual business claims with approved evidence. Name the organisation accurately, distinguish real client work from demonstrations and keep service details current. A polished claim about expertise or results does not become credible merely because it appears in structured data.

Use AI search guidance without adding unnecessary machinery.

Google’s guidance for its AI search features says the usual SEO foundations remain relevant and that there are no additional technical requirements for inclusion. There is no special AI schema or new machine-readable file required by that guidance. Eligibility still does not guarantee that a page will appear.

Use structured data when it accurately describes visible content and fits a supported type. It is an aid to understanding, not a way to override weak information. Visible questions and answers can help customers even when they do not produce a special search presentation.

Give local pages a reason to exist.

A city page should help a customer understand the relevant offer, delivery arrangement or buying considerations. Useful distinctions might include an actual location, service coverage, language journey or a different project requirement. Do not imply local offices or client experience that the business cannot substantiate.

Google’s spam policies address doorway pages and scaled content created primarily to manipulate search results. Publishing many substantially similar city pages or low-value variations is therefore a poor foundation. Expand when there is distinct information to contribute, and connect the pages to useful service content.

Measure discovery and the conversations it produces.

Review relevant queries, landing pages and completed enquiries together. Google includes traffic from its AI search features in the overall Web performance reporting described in its guidance, so avoid claiming a precise AI contribution that the available reporting cannot establish.

Use enquiry quality and recurring customer questions to choose the next improvement. A clearer explanation, better evidence or a more dependable lead handoff may be more valuable than publishing another article. Search visibility and AI citations remain outcomes to observe, not promises a website provider can make.

Your planning checklist

  • Answer the questions that influence a real buying decision.
  • Keep important content readable, linked and technically accessible.
  • Use only supported, accurate business and structured-data claims.
  • Evaluate search interest alongside completed, relevant enquiries.

Common questions

Do we need special files to appear in Google’s AI search features?

Google’s published guidance does not require a special AI file or schema. Focus on the technical eligibility and useful content practices described in that guidance, while recognising that inclusion and visibility are never guaranteed.

How many city pages should a service business publish?

As many as it can support with genuinely useful and accurate information for customers. A fixed page count is not a quality strategy. Each page should have a clear role and avoid becoming a near-duplicate route to the same generic offer.
